Darren Bent has heaped praise on Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson for the role he plays in Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The Sky Sports pundit claimed that the England international is heavily disrespected when things start going wrong for the Reds as he is the one to take the blame on his shoulders.

Bent admitted he was a big fan of the 29-year-old for the way he conducts himself on the pitch despite having to sometime listen to unnecessary comments on his performance.

“100%, every time things aren’t going well, they blame him,” he told Football Insider.

“He still doesn’t get the respect he deserves, so for me, underrated, I’m a big fan of Jordan and he knows that.

“He was one of the key components in them winning the Champions League last season and against Spurs when they were losing, he scored the goal to get back in the game.”

Henderson captained Liverpool against Manchester City in the 3-1 win on Sunday which sent the Reds eight points clear at the top of the Premier League.

OPINION

The Reds’ skipper has been phenomenal this season in the middle of the park and has already had his say in keeping his side’s unbeaten beginning to the season. His goal against Tottenham was one of the most important he has scored yet at Anfield, and his influence to the players around him has been crucial. The 29-year-old often takes the big part of any blame in Merseyside, and Bent is right, most of it is definitely undeserved. One of the most impressive parts of that is the fact that Henderson can push through, ignore that, and continue his great run of form on the pitch – where he does all of his talking. Sitting alongside Fabinho, the England international offers great cover to his side’s free-flowing full-backs Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson. Henderson averages 2.5 tackles per 90 minutes according to WhoScored, and maybe it would take Liverpool missing their captain for the majority of people to truly appreciate his efforts for their side.
