OPINION

Whenever Liverpool are linked with a top level forward, it’s hard not to question why they are bothering. After all, they have the most fearsome from three in the Premier League at their disposal, and a decent deputy option in Divock Origi. Throw into the mix the emerging Rhian Brewster, and it would appear that they are pretty well stocked when it comes to striking talent. So it makes sense that many Kopites are turning their nose up at the prospect of signing Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. According to Spanish journalist Juanfe Sanz, the hitman has a release clause in his contract that will come into effect if the Gunners don’t qualify for the Champions League this season. And many Reds have decided that he wouldn’t be a good fit for their side. The 30-year-old has hit eight goals in the Premier League so far this season, and has averaged 3.1 shots per game in all competitions, as per Whoscored. But many supporters are doubtful over his work rate, with some also suggesting that his age could prove to be an issue. The chances of anything actually happening is slim, and there are no suggestions that the Reds are even interested, but by the sounds of it, fans wouldn’t be too happy if they were.
