He might not be the next Lionel Messi – as a few Liverpool fans have claimed – but Matteo Ritaccio is a decent young player with good potential and it is great to see that he has been handed a professional deal at Anfield. Liverpool confirmed via their official website on Tuesday that Ritaccio has agreed new terms at the Merseyside club after impressing in the Under-18s this season. When Liverpool fans think about the club’s best young players they do not ever really mention Ritaccio, but he has played an important role in the Under-18 Premier League this season, scoring one goal and supplying two assists in five appearances before a leg injury in September ended his 2019 prematurely. It says a lot that despite his injury, Liverpool are still willing to sort out fresh terms for the teenage midfielder, so fans need to keep an eye out for the USA youth international over the coming years. Just don’t hype him up too much.
