The Liverpool fans just love having a go at centre back Dejan Lovren, don’t they? Even as they were cruising to a 2-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, some supporters weren’t happy with the influence of the Croatian international at the heart of the defence. Lovren was very much overshadowed by his centre half partner Virgil van Dijk at Anfield, with the Dutchman grabbing a brace with two bullet headers. The 30-year-old, on the other hand, failed to produce anything as positive as that against the Seagulls. He wasn’t horrendous, as one fan said, but he certainly didn’t have his best game either. He – and his fellow Reds stars, to be fair – let Lewis Dunk escape their attention long enough to have a golden chance, but fortunately for Jurgen Klopp’s team he smashed his effort wide. It was a warning sign, and Lovren didn’t deal with it well, but he wasn’t the only one. Yet he’s the man who receives pelters, seemingly no matter what, every single week.
