Garth Crooks has included Jordan Henderson in his Premier League team of the week, hailing the Liverpool captain for his “outstanding” form of late.

The 29-year-old was on hand to provide the assist for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s opener in the 3-0 win over Bournemouth at the weekend, and Crooks was suitably impressed with his contribution.

Speaking to BBC Sport, he said: “This player has been outstanding for Liverpool during the past few weeks and continued his excellent form against a Bournemouth side that were never in Liverpool’s class.

“Jordan Henderson’s pass for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to score was sensational. It might have helped the Cherries if they had a player within 10 feet of the Liverpool captain.

“Henderson may not be the most adroit practitioner with the ball at his feet but even he will kill you if you give him that much room. The Reds go marching on.”

OPINION

It’s nice to see Henderson get some praise this week. Often lampooned by many Kopites who perhaps see him as a more industrial alternative to their slightly glitzier talents, the skipper is the skipper for a reason, and his work ethic and tenacity are key factors in this Liverpool side’s current run of form. It was another superb outing from Henderson on Saturday though, and assist aside, he managed a pass completion rate of 92.7%, as well as two key passes, two tackles, and an interception, as per Whoscored. It was an all-action performance from a player who is so understated and yet so integral to this Liverpool team. His match rating of 8.32 was more than deserved, and your only hope would be that if he continues to perform in this manner, he starts to receive a little bit more love from his own fanbase.
