Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp has heaped praise on Reds attacker Mohamed Salah for his performance against Watford on Saturday.

The Egyptian international scored a sublime brace, including a lovely second strike, as the European champions eased to a 2-0 victory over the Hornets.

Redknapp was certainly impressed: “You will not see a cheekier goal scored this season than that by Mohamed Salah against Watford,” he wrote in his Daily Mail column. “It was such quickthinking to go for the back-heel and send it through the legs of Christian Kabasele.

“That was a moment of sheer individual genius but the beauty of Liverpool is the way the entire team work together. Every fan out there must wish their players gave as much as those in red do for Jurgen Klopp. Getting the German to put pen to paper until 2024 is Liverpool’s signing of the season, without doubt.”

OPINION

Redknapp is absolutely spot on in regards to Klopp’s new contract being Liverpool’s signing of the season. Getting the former Borussia Dortmund boss on board for five more years is absolutely key to the Reds’ future success. They look set to continue to play a big part in the Premier League and Champions League races for years to come, while they will continue to be able to attract world class talent with the German on board. As for Salah’s spectacular double on Saturday, it was quite something to witness. The first goal was a magnificent team effort. Roberto Firmino produced a beautiful flick to get the ball out of the Liverpool danger zone, and before the Hornets knew it Sadio Mane had released Salah. The Egyptian then did what he did best, cutting inside and floating a beautiful strike into the top corner. Then there’s the second strike, where the 27-year-old did wonderfully to manage to flick the ball into the back of the net with a split-second to think about it.
