Alan Shearer has hailed Jordan Henderson for his “sublime” assist for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s opener in Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday.

The Kop skipper played an inch perfect diagonal into the path of his teammate to help break the deadlock on the south coast, and Shearer was quick to sing his praises for the contribution.

Speaking on Match of the Day (Saturday December 6th, 22.30, BBC One), the pundit said: “I mean, just a sublime pass and a great finish.”

OPINION

This was some pass from Henderson, and was fully deserving of all the plaudits that are being lavished upon it. Admittedly, the Cherries give the England international acres of space as he receives the ball in his own half, and from Eddie Howe’s perspective, that will have been incredibly frustrating to see, but from that point onwards, it’s all about Henderson’s vision, and the execution of that. To see Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is one thing, but to then look up and ping a ball on a sixpence from 60 or so yards was something else entirely. Of course, it’s made all the more better by a tidy little finish from the Ox, but without Henderson’s masterful pass, there is no goal. The 29-year-old got his highest match rating of the season on Saturday, as per Whoscored, and it was thoroughly deserved.
