Former Premier League winner Ian Wright has heaped praise on Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah for his sensation performance against Watford on Saturday.

The Egyptian international scored both goals as the Reds eased to a 2-0 victory over basement boys Watford, lifting them 10 points clear of nearest challengers Leicester City.

Wright was very impressed: “His desire to get in the box – look at him there!,” he said on Match of the Day [14/12; 18:00]. “It doesn’t quite go for him there, Divock Origi.

“When you’re in the form that Mo Salah’s in, even when someone miss-kicks it, you can improvise and ‘meg someone while you’re backing into the goal. Everything’s going right for him.”

OPINION

Salah was absolutely terrific against the Hornets on Saturday. Nigel Pearson’s side had no answer for the former Roma man, he simply performed at a level above anybody else on the pitch. He took his first goal extremely well, making a fantastic run and then capitalising on a tremendous pass from Sadio Mane, curling the ball into the top corner with apparent ease. He was slightly fortunate with how the ball came to him for his second, but he did what he needed to do regardless. The statistics show that this was a masterful afternoon’s work for the Egyptian. As per WhoScored.com, the 27-year-old had seven shots, three of which were on target, and completed one successful dribble. On the defensive end he made a tackle and an interception, all helping him achieve a WhoScored rating of 8.44. He really is one of the finest goalscorers in world football, and we saw that once again on Saturday.
