OPINION
Jordan Henderson seems to have a bit of a tumultuous relationship with Liverpool fans. It doesn’t seem to matter what he does, most weeks you will find a faction of Kopites moaning on about him for some reason or other, as per Live 4 Liverpool. Against Bournemouth on Saturday, even the most critical of supporters will have had to keep their mouths shut though. The skipper put in a fantastic display, and the long ball over the top he played to release Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for the opener in the Reds’ 3-0 win over the Cherries was nothing short of extraordinary. One Twitter user compared it to the output of Xabi Alonso in his prime, and you really have to ask yourself if there are many compliments as resounding as that one. As for Henderson himself, this fickle witch hunt against him needs to end. He may not be the most eye-catching of players, but his work rate and leadership must not be underestimated. There is a reason why it was he who lifted the Champions League trophy last summer in Madrid, and there is a reason why it will be he who lifts the Premier League this May should the Reds hang on to their commanding lead in the title race. Like it or not, Henderson is a key player for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
