OPINION

James Milner has had one of the finest careers in English football since the turn of teh millennium. The veteran midfielder has won it all with Manchester City and now Liverpool, and he deserves all the credit and respect in the world for that. But the old adage goes that all good things must come to an end, and you can’t help wondering if the irrepressible ace might finally be beginning to wind down a little. His first half outing against Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon looked to be further proof of this. Aside from a couple of bright moments here and there, Milner looked, for the most part, quite sluggish, often taking too many touches and generally struggling to keep up with the positive forward-thinking play of his teammates. Of course, the ex-England international is still a quality player, but so far this season he has averaged just 0.4 key passes and 0.1 successful dribbles per game in the Premier League, as per Whoscored. That’s not good enough for player trying to hold down a place in a title-challenging midfield, and you can’t help fearing that the experienced stalwart may be on the downwards slope of his career.
