This week has been an extremely good one for Liverpool fans. They secured their passage through to the Champions League knock-out stages on Tuesday, and followed it up with more good news later in the week.

Yes, manager Jurgen Klopp and utility man James Milner both committed themselves to the European champions by signing new contracts on Friday.

But the festivities aren’t over yet apparently. Football Insider reported on Saturday that Reds mainstay Georginio Wijnaldum is on the verge of putting pen to paper on a new deal at Anfield.

The Dutch international’s current deal is set to expire in 2021, but is expected to be offered an improved one with a pay hike on his £80,000-per-week wages.

The 29-year-old has been a rip-roaring success since joining Klopp’s team from Newcastle United in 2016, and is arguably the most improved player in the squad over the past couple of seasons.

So this is news that will likely have the Liverpool fans grinning from ear to ear. Klopp and Milner’s futures sorted, Takumi Minamino on his way, and now Wijnaldum set to extend his stay as well.

The statistics from this season show that ‘Gini’ is a consistent, all-round central midfielder. As per WhoScored.com, he has scored three goals in all competitions and is averaging 1.8 shots per game.

He also contributes defensively, though, averaging 1.1 tackles and 1.1 clearances an outing. Meanwhile, he averages 42.7 passes a game with a phenomenal success rate of 90.8%.

He is so reliable, even if he’s not the flashiest of players. However, he contributes in big moments and is regularly called upon in big games by the Liverpool boss.

So it’s a no-brainer for the club to hand Wijnaldum fresh terms, he 100% deserves it.
