Liverpool midfielder Fabinho came in for criticism from a number of the club’s supporters over his role in Chelsea’s opening goal in tonight’s FA Cup tie at Stamford Bridge.

Willian fired the Blues in front in the 13th minute after his shot proved too powerful for Adrian to handle, although the goalkeeper may have expected to save it, having just produced an excellent stop from the Brazilian winger a minute beforehand. However, plenty of Reds fans pointed the finger of blame at Fabinho over his involvement in the goal, as his loose touch just outside the penalty area gifting possession to Willian just before the Chelsea winger struck for goal. The Liverpool midfielder had been targeted by some supporters over recent displays after coming back from an ankle injury that kept him out for almost two months, prior to which he was lauded by pundits such as Paul Merson and Gary Neville for his standard of performances.

These Reds fans on Twitter took aim at Fabinho after his mistake for Willian’s goal and his downturn in form, with one supporter comparing him unfavourably to Manchester United’s Fred and another dismissing the 26-year-old as a “liability”:
