Some Liverpool fans were left ruing some unconvincing moments from young goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros in the under-19 team’s 4-1 UEFA Youth League defeat away to Benfica this afternoon.

As noted by the club’s official Twitter account @LFC, the Portuguese side opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Goncalo Ramos unleashed a 30-yard shot that dipped late, catching out the Czech ‘keeper who may feel he could have reacted better to the effort.

It wasn’t how the 18-year-old would have wanted to begin his first UEFA Youth League outing of the season, although he atoned for that apparent error shortly before half-time when saving a penalty from Tiago Dantas with Benfica 3-1 to the good not long after Tyler Morton had pulled a goal back for the Reds.

Unfortunately, his afternoon worsened just before the hour mark when another long-range shot from Ramos ended up in the net after the Liverpool ‘keeper let the ball slip out of his hands and could only watch it bounce off the post and over the line (as per @AndyK_LivNews on Twitter).

These Liverpool fans on Twitter weren’t too impressed with Jaros’ performance, with one saying that he was “doing a Pickford” in reference to an error from the Everton goalkeeper against Manchester United at the weekend:

Liverpool fans, were you disappointed with Jaros’ performance in the clash against Benfica? Comment below with your views!
