A number of Liverpool fans have called for the club to get rid of Dejan Lovren following comments that he posted in the aftermath of the Reds’ 0-3 defeat to Watford on Saturday.

As reported by the Liverpool Echo and shared on Twitter by @AnfieldWatch, the Croatian centre-back said that he felt “ashamed” of his team’s performance at Vicarage Road. He commented: “The manager looked at us when he came into the dressing room and he knew that we knew it wasn’t our best performance. We felt a little bit ashamed, you know? We should have done better. There is no excuse for that performance.”

Lovren came into the starting line-up on Saturday in place of Joe Gomez, who was carrying a slight injury, for his ninth Premier League start of the season and his first in the division for almost three months, but he had a night to forget against the Hornets. In the build-up to Watford’s first goal, he allowed the ball to bounce from a throw-in and failed to spot Abdoulaye Doucoure behind them, with the midfielder duly teeing up Ismaila Sarr to score (as per Sky Sports).

In the Liverpool Echo, Ian Doyle felt that the 30-year-old “gave away too many daft free-kicks” and looked “panicky at times”, while Sky Sports‘ match report stated that he “looked rusty at the heart of the back-line”.

Lovren’s post-match comments drew little sympathy from these Liverpool fans on Twitter who want to see the back of the Croatian after six years at Anfield, with one supporter angrily declaring him a “fraud“:
