A number of Liverpool fans have backed Jordan Henderson to be named PFA Player of the Year for the 2019/20 season in response to a question from Empire of the Kop on Twitter (@empireofthekop) as to the likely winner of the accolade.

The Reds captain was also mooted as a deserving candidate of the honour by BBC pundit and the Premier League’s all-time top scorer Alan Shearer on Match of the Day in early February (as per Liverpool Echo), shortly before the 29-year-old’s absence with a hamstring injury largely coincided with a run of four defeats in six games for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Henderson has won more tackles per game in the league for Liverpool this season than any of his team-mates, while his match averages of 62.4 passes in the Premier League and 66.5 in the Champions League put him in the top six Reds players for both competitions. [via WhoScored]

If the England midfielder or any of his team-mates are named PFA Player of the Year, it would be the third season in succession in which a Liverpool player has claimed the honour, following Virgil van Dijk last year and Mohamed Salah in 2018. These Reds fans on Twitter, responding to @empireofthekop, think that Henderson would be a worthy successor to that pair:

Liverpool fans, do you think Henderson should be named PFA Player of the Year? Are there any other Reds players who ought to be in the frame for the prize? Share your views in the comments section below!
