Liverpool would lift the Premier League trophy in their current New Balance kit despite Nike being set to take over as the club’s kit supplier from 1 June, according to a report from James Pearce for The Athletic which he later shared on Twitter via @JamesPearceLFC.

His article for The Athletic reported that a potential court battle between the two sportswear companies would be avoided as Nike agreed that, even if the season runs into June or beyond, they would let the Reds wear New Balance gear should they go on to become champions, with the latter standing to benefit from the value that would be attached to those images.

Liverpool are currently on course to end a 30-year title drought given their 25-point lead in the Premier League. However, with the season on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic, there remains a possibility that the Reds could be deprived of a seemingly impending crown if the season is voided – David Ornstein, a colleague of Pearce at The Athletic, reported this morning that there is a “growing appetite” among Premier League clubs to scrap the 2019/20 campaign given the severity of the COVID-19 crisis.

These Liverpool fans on Twitter gloomily dismissed Pearce’s report as trivial, fearing that the season will indeed be rendered null and void as the title famine continues for the Reds:
