On Monday, The Athletic writer James Pearce claimed that Liverpool could finish the season in a different kit from the one they current have due to an impending changeover in supplier.
As he also pointed out on Twitter (via @JamesPearceLFC), the Premier League campaign could run beyond the end of May if it is resumed following it current hiatus due to COVID-19, with Nike due to replace New Balance as the club’s kit supplier from 1 June.
Liverpool players informed that Melwood will be shut for a fortnight. If the season is revived and extended beyond May #LFC could end up sealing the Premier League title in the new Nike kit. https://t.co/U16SfD4QTW

As per The Athletic, the Reds’ current kit partners engaged in an unsuccessful High Court battle to retain the lucrative contract, meaning that their deal with Liverpool officially ends on 31 May as Nike take the reins from the start of June. Therefore, if the Premier League season (originally scheduled to end on 17 May) continues into that month and the Reds go on to win the title, they could receive the trophy in the new kit.
After five years with New Balance, these Liverpool fans on Twitter didn’t seem too enthused about the prospect of celebrating this season’s potential Premier League triumph in the threads of Nike:
Not fair on New Balance this and would be inconsistent with many of our other wishes for remainder of season – bad form plus bring bad karma

Not fair on NB if that happens.

That has to be some bad luck… switching kits like that if it were to happen.

So weird. NB won’t be happy

No matter what happens, NB should be worn to lift the OL trophy; their kits have been boss, and they deserve recognition. Nike has all the other trophies that will follow, anyway.

Liverpool fans, would you be bothered by lifting the league title in Nike’s kit rather than the current New Balance one? Comment below with your views!
