A number of Liverpool fans have hit out at Premier League rivals Manchester City following reports that the Etihad Stadium outfit were surprised at the Reds calling for UEFA to uphold the club’s suspension from European competitions for the next two seasons.

The Mirror claimed that the reigning English champions were taken aback at the stance from Liverpool and the majority of top 10 Premier League clubs who don’t want the ban on Manchester City relaxed, with the story shared by @AnfieldEdition on Twitter.

Pep Guardiola’s side were last month banned from European competitions for two years having been found guilty of serious breaches of Financial Fair Play regulations but the club have denied any wrongdoing and are appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to reconsider the ban. According to The Mirror, clubs like Liverpool fear that City could ask for the punishment to be deferred during the appeal process, which could open the door for them to participate in next season’s Champions League, with City understood to be especially surprised at the Reds’ stance on the matter.

These Liverpool fans on Twitter weren’t impressed by City’s reported surprise at the Anfield club’s conduct, with some citing the Etihad Stadium outfit’s failure to comply with regulations and a chant from some City fans (and once sung by their players) which seems to glorify the serious assault on Reds supporter Sean Cox in 2018 and mock the pursuit of justice following the Hillsborough disaster (as per Bleacher Report):
