A number of Liverpool fans have been provoked into a reaction after comments made by former Premier League player Jamie O’Hara about their season compared to that of one of their rivals.

Speaking on talkSPORT [via Anfield Watch], the ex-Tottenham midfielder claimed that Manchester City will have had a better season than Liverpool if they win the Champions League, even if the Reds take the Premier League crown from Pep Guardiola’s side and win a first league title in 30 years, which looks likely given their 22-point lead.

Both clubs have already lifted two pieces of silverware this season. Liverpool claimed the UEFA Super Cup in August and added the Club World Cup four months later, while Manchester City lifted the Community Shield at the outset of the campaign and won the Carabao Cup last weekend.

However, the Etihad Stadium club were recently hit with a two-year ban by UEFA for “serious breaches” of the organisation’s Financial Fair Play regulations, meaning that even if they win their first European Cup in May (Liverpool have six), they would be unable to defend their crown. These Reds fans on Twitter took umbrage with O’Hara’s comments and also had a swipe at the reigning Premier League champions over their off-field indiscretions:
