A number of Liverpool fans have identified Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic as a preferred alternative to Timo Werner if the Reds are unable to lure the Germany international to Anfield in the summer.

The Premier League leaders have been linked with a move for the RB Leipzig hitman, with The Athletic recently claiming that Liverpool have stepped up their interest in the 24-year-old. However, should their reported pursuit of him proves unsuccessful, @AnfieldEdition on Twitter asked followers who they would like to see as an alternative transfer target after the Daily Express identified Jovic, Carlos Vinicius, Diogo Jota and Victor Osimhen as potential options.

Many plumped for Serbia international Jovic, who joined Real Madrid last year in a €60m (£53.16m) deal (as per London Evening Standard) after netting 27 times for Eintracht Frankfurt in the 2018/19 season. However, he has struggled for recognition at the Bernabeu, starting only four La Liga games and netting just twice so far this term. He was recently involved in a controversial episode where he breached coronavirus self-isolation measures by returning to his native country from Spain (as per The Independent).

While the 22-year-old has not had the best of seasons in Madrid, these Liverpool fans on Twitter believe he would be worth a shot if the pursuit of Werner is unsuccessful, with one Kopite labelling him a “clinical finisher“:
