Plenty of Liverpool fans have expressed their concerns at a claim from James Pearce in a Q&A for The Athletic in which he said that signing a midfielder won’t be a priority for Jurgen Klopp in the transfer market this summer.
As per @AnfieldEdition on Twitter, the journalist told The Athletic that he expects to see the manager giving Curtis Jones a more prominent first team role next season and will also keep faith with Naby Keita, especially with the experienced Adam Lallana likely to depart once his contract expires in the summer.

Although Jones has been lauded by some Liverpool fans for his performances this season, he is still only 19 and made just nine senior appearances, while Keita has had an unenviable injury record during his time at Anfield. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is the only Reds midfielder to score more than five goals so far this term, which may have led to the club being linked with a summer move for Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz (as per Daily Express). However, Evening Standard journalist David Lynch said this week that a move for the German midfielder is unlikely.
Liverpool Echo writer Ian Doyle voiced concerns about the Reds’ midfield earlier this month on the Blood Red podcast and these Kopites on Twitter weren’t happy to hear that Klopp doesn’t plan to invest in this part of the squad over the summer. Some fans even went as far as saying that owners FSG need to go if the midfield isn’t strengthened:

But but but Havertz

Oh c’mon. What if Keita is injured again? We need at least one guy that can shot from outside the box and give some spark to the midfield.

Genuine question, how long until it’s time to accept that we won’t get a fit Naby Keita?

Let’s not deceive ourselves. We need to make big spendings for our midfield more than ever before. It’s not a position that one can easily grow to fit into. Or better still play @takumina0116 from the middle, 10.
