Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has been lauded by a number of the club’s supporters following a philanthropic gesture towards people in his native land.
As reported by BBC and subsequently shared by @LFCTransferRoom, the 27-year-old donated 30 million FCFA (approximately £41,000) to the national committee fighting against coronavirus in Senegal, a contribution he made spontaneously after seeing how drastically the COVID-19 crisis evolved in the African country. BBC stated that, according to Senegal’s Ministry of Health, there have been 27 confirmed cases of the pandemic in the country, although two of those affected have returned to health.

Mane, who has scored 18 goals in 38 matches for Liverpool so far this season, has an admirable track record for generosity towards his native people. He donated 300 Liverpool shirts to his hometown of Bambali just before the 2018 Champions League final (as per The Guardian) as well as pledging more than £250,000 towards the construction of a school and hospital in the town, visiting the construction site of the former to see its progress (as per talkSPORT).
These Reds fans on Twitter voiced their admiration for the Senegal forward upon hearing of his latest act of philanthropy, with one Kopite describing him as a “real hero“:
That’s why we love him
