A number of Liverpool fans loved a reply from This Is Anfield writer Henry Jackson on Twitter (@HenryJackson87) from Arsenal-focused football writer Dan Critchlow.

The latter took aim at the Reds on his Twitter profile @afcDW after their defeat to Watford on Saturday, a result which ended Liverpool’s hopes of emulating the Gunners’ class of 2003/04 in going an entire Premier League season undefeated as well as seeing them fall five games short of equalling Arsenal’s record 49-match unbeaten run in the division. He said: “Liverpool fans said this team would have no trouble beating the likes of Vieira, Pires and Henry then watched it lose 3-0 to Doucoure, Sarr and Deeney.” However, Jackson duly delivered a stinging response.

The match to which he was referring was Liverpool’s 2-1 win over the Gunners in November 2004, when Neil Mellor struck a 30-yard stoppage time winner on a day that saw Antonio Nunez coming on as a substitute for Florent Sinama-Pongolle as the Reds defeated the then-Premier League champions, whose side contained the likes of Thierry Henry, Robert Pires and Patrick Vieira. These Liverpool fans on Twitter lapped up Jackson’s comeback to Critchlow following the latter’s dig at the Anfield club:
