Plenty of Liverpool fans have shown their appreciation for Nathaniel Clyne after @AnfieldEdition on Twitter asked followers to rate his Anfield career out of 10, following confirmation from James Pearce in a Q&A for The Athletic this week that the defender will leave the club this summer.
The 28-year-old will be out of contract at the end of the season and has already been linked with prospective suitors, with Turkish media outlet Posta [via Sport Witness] claiming this week that Besiktas have begun talks with the right-back about a potential switch to Istanbul.

Clyne arrived at Liverpool in 2015 and was the Reds’ first choice right-back for a couple of seasons before the emergence of Trent Alexander-Arnold saw him relegated to the role of backup. After going on loan to Bournemouth last season to obtain regular game-time, he suffered a cruciate ligament injury in July 2019 which has kept him sidelined ever since.
Despite his Anfield career looking set to peter out to an anticlimactic ending, these Liverpool fans on Twitter were keen to praise him for the performances he gave during his time with the club, with some supporters hailing him as “solid and reliable” and a “great team player“:
6. Composure at the back. Great team player. But he could have more chance with the team. Injury and less chance ruined he’s career

How could you rate anything under a 5? He was a solid and reliable player for years. 7 easily

7 – really unfortunate with injuries and could of been a 9/10 if he’d been fit

He was a determined defender, his wicked crosses against Sevilla in the Europa League Final, 2016 will not be forgotten. He was top, absolutely pivotal in the game & matchdays. He’s beyond average player, except sometimes injuries trying to set in.#YNWA Thanks in advance, Clyne
