A number of Liverpool fans have been reacting to an update from journalist Paul Joyce on the proposed expansion of the Anfield Road Stand at the club’s stadium.

The Times’ Northern Football Correspondent tweeted (via @_pauljoyce) that work on the stand’s expansion, which would ultimately increase the stadium’s capacity to 61,000, could now be delayed because of the impact of coronavirus on the construction industry.

As noted by Joyce and This Is Anfield, work on expanding the Anfield Road Stand was due to begin later this year but this now looks set to be delayed, potentially due to construction companies being forced to postpone current projects which, in turn, would push back works scheduled for the second half of 2020.

This hasn’t been the only Liverpool-related building project affected in recent days. The Daily Mail reported that construction has been stopped on the club’s new training complex in Kirkby after social distancing measures were implemented by construction company McLaughlin and Harvey, meaning that the first team squad could continue to train at Melwood next season.

These Reds fans on Twitter weren’t happy to hear of the construction delays, with one Kopite labelling the journalist “Bad News Joyce“:
