A number of Liverpool fans have hit out at England captain Harry Kane after he called for the current Premier League season to be scrapped if it cannot be finished by the end of June.

With English professional football suspended until 30 April at the earliest due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Tottenham striker told BBC: “I know the Premier League will do everything it can to finish the season. There needs to be a point where enough is enough. Probably the limit for me is the end of June.” The story was later shared on Twitter by @empireofthekop.

While Kane’s Spurs side are struggling in eighth place in the Premier League, and with the 26-year-old’s 11-goal tally in the league his lowest in six years, Liverpool lead the division by 25 points and need only two more wins to secure a first title since 1990.

The Tottenham striker infamously claimed a dubious goal two years ago as he contested the Premier League Golden Boot race with Mohamed Salah, which the Reds forward eventually won (as per TransferMarkt). He also angered some Liverpool fans earlier this season after claiming that Jurgen Klopp’s side were fortunate to have beaten Spurs 2-1 at Anfield.

These Reds supporters took to Twitter to have a go at Kane over his calls for the season to be voided if it can’t be completed by 30 June:
