A number of Liverpool fans have hit out at musician Noel Gallagher over comments he made criticising the Anfield club.

Speaking to talkSPORT, the Manchester City supporter and former Oasis man took aim at Reds supporters and reckons that the two teams are fated to meet in the Champions League final in Istanbul in May [shared via @empireofthekop on Twitter].

He said: “Liverpool, for all their fans crowing, have been the best team in England once in 30 years. You’ve got to wear it off that lot, they are terrible winners; worse losers but bad winners as well. But they’ve been the best team once in 30 years and we’ve got to try and emulate them in Europe, somehow.

“We are getting closer and destiny is driving us to play them in the final; for some reason I can just see it, and in Istanbul as well. That would be a terrible thing for everybody’s mental health if we had to go and play them.”

This is not the first time that Gallagher has had a public swipe at Liverpool. After his club pipped the Reds to the Premier League title by 98 points to 97 last season, he described the Merseysiders’ runners-up finish as “too funny”. He also said that Manchester City would win the league annually for as long as Pep Guardiola is at the Etihad Stadium, adding that Jurgen Klopp’s side would not “get near” them this season. Those comments look set to come back to bite the musician, with Liverpool currently holding a 22-point lead over the reigning champions and requiring just four wins from 10 games to win their first league title in 30 years. These Reds fans hit back at Gallagher following his latest dig at the Anfield club:
