Many Liverpool fans reacted dismissively to a list of potential transfer targets if the Reds are unable to land RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner.
The Germany international has been linked with a move to Anfield for a number of weeks, with The Athletic claiming that the Merseysiders have stepped up their interest in the 24-year-old. However, with the player expressing uncertainty over such a move (as per Sky Sports), there is a distinct chance that he won’t be lining out for Jurgen Klopp’s team next season.
Consequently, the Liverpool Echo drew up a list of potential forward alternatives to Werner in the transfer market, suggesting Lazio’s Ciro Immobile, Atalanta’s Josip Ilicic and Monaco’s Wissam Ben Yedder as possible options, with @AnfieldEdition on Twitter asking followers for their opinion on the trio.

Werner (24) has struck 27 goals in 36 matches for RB Leipzig (0.75 goals per game) this season, compared with 30 goals in 33 games for 30-year-old Immobile (0.91 goals per game), 21 goals in 29 matches for 32-year-old Ilicic (0.72 goals per game) and 19 goals in 31 games for 29-year-old Ben Yedder (0.61 goals per game).
These Liverpool fans on Twitter weren’t convinced by the list of alternatives to the Germany striker, with some citing concerns about the respective ages of the Liverpool Echo’s suggested trio:

Ciro was awful in BuLi. Ben Yedder is prolific but he is a bit old. Dont know much about the player from Atlanta

They’re all good alternatives but all entering their peak years or past it. Immobile failed under Klopp previously so im not believing that one even though he’s world class right now. Werner fits the build perfectly, get him in and that £40m-£50n clause will look cheap in time.
