The Timo Werner to Liverpool transfer saga has taken another twist after the striker expressed uncertainty over whether he would want to leave RB Leipzig for Anfield.
Speaking to Sky Sports, the 24-year-old said: “At this time in professional soccer there are two different variations. The first is to be part of a team like Liverpool or Manchester City. They have a good working team. The teams have also great coaches.
“But this is the question: do you want to go to that kind of team, because the situation is already that hard for each member and you want to be a part of it? That’s one point you have to look at.”
Last week, The Athletic reported [via TEAMtalk] that the Reds were due to begin talks with Werner over a potential transfer, with the Germany international having a €60m (£52.3m) release clause in his RB Leipzig contract, while Simon Hughes claimed on The Red Agenda podcast [03/03/20 – 51:35, via Empire of the Kop] that the striker “really wants to move to Liverpool”.
At the weekend, German publication Bild claimed that the Reds are planning to buy the 24-year-old in the summer and loan him back to his current club for a season, a proposal which met with substantial opposition from these Liverpool fans.
Werner, who could feature for RB Leipzig against Tottenham in the Champions League tonight, has racked up 27 goals so far this season, seven more than Liverpool’s leading scorer Mohamed Salah. However, these Reds fans on Twitter weren’t too happy after his latest comments seemed to cast doubt on a potential move to Anfield:

This isn’t happening. He’s making too much noise, everything is done quietly with us. Sounds like Werner desperately trying to generate interest from English clubs.

Weird the guy was begging us to sign him now he’s “not sure” ?

We’ve never completed a signing under Klopp who has talked openly about us. I don’t see it happening and I think this is Werner trying to pursue a move to a top team and drive the price up. Quiet signings have been our way for a while now. This just seems too loud for me.
