Plenty of Liverpool fans have been reacting to a report from Italian media outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi [via @AnfieldEdition on Twitter] that Lazio are targeting Reds centre-back Dejan Lovren in their search for an experienced defender, with the Anfield club valuing the Croatian at €20m (£18.2m).

The 30-year-old has been at Liverpool since 2014 and, despite being a member of the Reds’ Champions League-winning squad last season, there have been reports of him being considered dispensable by the club. Last week, the Liverpool Echo claimed that he could be moved on in the summer as part of a planned overhaul of Jurgen Klopp’s first team squad.

Lovren, who came close to joining Lazio’s arch-rivals Roma last year (according to Tuttomercatoweb, via TEAMtalk), memorably scored a stoppage time winner against Borussia Dortmund in a 4-3 Europa League epic in 2016. However, he has had some tough days in his time at Liverpool, not least his error-laden performance in a 4-1 loss at Tottenham in 2017, and he was castigated by Andy Gray and many Reds fans for his part in the recent 3-0 thrashing by Watford.

These Liverpool supporters on Twitter welcomed news of Lazio’s apparent interest in signing the Croatia defender:
