The topic of Xherdan Shaqiri’s future at Liverpool has prompted a difference of opinion among some of the club’s supporters after the question was raised by Empire of the Kop on Twitter (@empireofthekop) following recent reports of a possible Anfield departure.

The 28-year-old was included in a list of six Reds players tipped for a potential exit from the club by the Liverpool Echo last weekend, with reporter Paul Gorst claiming that he could be sold if an enticing offer is made for him.

Shaqiri joined from Stoke two years ago and scored six goals in his first season with the Reds, including a double in a 3-1 win over Manchester United. However, a succession of calf injuries originating last summer and recurring in September and January have restricted the Swiss winger to a mere 10 appearances this season, getting just 256 minutes of game-time and two Premier League starts. Liverpool’s reported transfer interest in fellow right winger Jadon Sancho (as per Daily Mail) may also cast doubt over his Anfield future.

These Reds fans on Twitter were divided over the subject of Shaqiri’s future, with some feeling his time is up at Anfield and others standing by him – one Kopite instead called for another injury-plagued Liverpool man in Naby Keita to be sold:

Liverpool fans, do you think the club should part ways with Shaqiri or does he still have something to offer to the Reds? Join in the discussion by commenting below!
