Many Liverpool fans have slammed the mentality of certain parties calling for the 2019/20 Premier League season to be voided amid the current coronavirus pandemic.

The issue was raised by Empire of the Kop on Twitter (@empireofthekop), blasting the “ignorant” mindset of those advocating that the season be declared null and void if it cannot be resumed in the foreseeable future. The English professional season is currently due to resume on 30 April but, as noted by Sky Sports, key stakeholders have agreed that it cannot recommence until it is “safe and appropriate to do so”.

West Ham co-chairperson Karren Brady, TV personality Piers Morgan and ex-Premier League players Tony Adams, Joe Cole and Rio Ferdinand have all said that the season ought to be either scrapped or restarted. Also, some Manchester United fans on social media were trolling Liverpool over that possibility, with the Reds on the brink of winning a first league title in 30 years if the season can be completed on the pitch.

The tweet from @empireofthekop sparked a response from these Reds fans on Twitter, who also hit out at those calling for the Premier League season to be scrapped:
