A number of Liverpool fans have lauded a “noble gesture” from Jurgen Klopp, who is reportedly willing to take a temporary pay cut during the cessation of football amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Daily Mail‘s Matt Hughes reported that the Reds manager has privately indicated a willingness to take a reduction in wages as talks continue between Premier League executives and managers about a potential cut in salary, following the league’s recommendation for a 30% reduction to “protect employment throughout the professional game“. Reds fan @DaveOCKOP on Twitter shared the news of Klopp’s reported willigness to take a pay cut.

As noted by the Daily Mail, Eddie Howe and Graham Potter had already accepted temporary wage reductions during a period where cash flow shortages have prompted Liverpool, among other Premier League clubs, to place some non-playing staff on furlough (as per BBC). The Anfield club’s decision to engage with the government’s furlough scheme met with criticism from Jamie Carragher and some supporters.

However, these Liverpool fans saluted Klopp after reports of his readiness to reduce his wages during the current crisis:
