Many Liverpool fans have commended the Spirit of Shankly (SoS) supporters’ group after the Anfield club yesterday reversed its decision to furlough some non-playing staff.
The SoS posted a statement titled ‘The Right Outcome’ on their website and Twitter profile @spiritofshankly describing the abandonment of the proposed furloughing of staff as “the best possible outcome SOS members and Liverpool supporters could have hoped for”.

On Sunday, the SoS posted an open letter to Liverpool’s chief executive officer Peter Moore seeking responses to a number of questions about the furlough decision. SoS chair Joe Blott also told the Liverpool Echo that the union shared the frustrations of supporters who had been critical of the club’s initial decision but said he would reserve judgement until the club confirmed to SoS that they had accepted the government’s furlough scheme.
Liverpool FC confirmed the reversal of the furlough decision on their official website yesterday evening in a statement in which they thanked the SoS group, among other parties, for engaging with them “in a productive fashion” and having a “much valued dialogue”.
These Liverpool fans on Twitter praised the SoS supporters’ union for their efforts in recent days:
It sounds like you deserve great credit in assisting the club to make the right decision.
