Despite news emerging from Germany that the Bundesliga is set to resume early next month, many Liverpool fans aren’t optimistic about a similarly swift return for the Premier League due to the coronavirus pandemic.

As noted by Sky Sports, the Bundesliga is ready to resume on 9 May and league officials are just waiting on the approval of the German government for it to return that soon, albeit behind closed doors. Sky Germany added that players will be tested for COVID-19 at least once a week to ensure adequate monitoring for the virus among the country’s top-flight footballers.

Following that announcement, Empire of the Kop asked its Twitter followers (via @empireofthekop) if they believed a precedent has been set for the Premier League to return similarly, but many Liverpool fans aren’t holding their breath. The Reds currently sit 25 points clear at the top of the division and need only two more wins to guarantee a first league since 1990.

However, some fans feel that German authorities have handled the pandemic far better than the UK government, with 18,739 deaths in this country from COVID-19 compared to 5,404 in Germany as of 8am this morning (as per Financial Times).

Here is a flavour of the reaction from some Liverpool fans on Twitter regarding the restart of the Premier League:
