A number of Liverpool fans reacted with excitement to reports from French media that Paris Saint-Germain have been declared as champions of Ligue 1.

L’Equipe reported [via Daily Mail] that, after the French football season was abandoned this week due to coronavirus, current Ligue 1 leaders PSG have been awarded the title, with Thomas Tuchel’s side 12 points clear at the summit.

Although the Premier League remains committed to resuming the season when it is deemed safe to do so, several European countries have already made a decision on the fate of their top leagues for 2019/20. The Eredivisie in Netherlands was voided with no winner crowned but the decision from the French football authorities to award the Ligue 1 title to PSG has sparked hope from some Liverpool supporters that a similar decision will be made in England should the Premier League be unable to recommence. Hundreds of football fans elsewhere in England have called for the league to be declared null and void so that the Reds would be thwarted in their title quest.

Liverpool have an even more emphatic lead than PSG, with 25 points separating Jurgen Klopp’s team from their nearest challengers, and are on course to win their first league title since 1990. These Reds fans on Twitter were whipped into a frenzy by the reports coming out of France this morning:
