A number of Liverpool fans have hailed club captain Jordan Henderson for his “superb leadership” in the establishment of an initiative between Premier League players to support the NHS during the coronavirus pandemic.

The 29-year-old tweeted a statement (via @JHenderson) from the #PlayersTogether initiative, a group set up by top-flight players with the mission of generating and donating funds towards the health service amid the COVID-19 crisis.

As reported by Matt Lawton and Paul Joyce in The Times last week, the Reds midfielder contacted the captains of other Premier League clubs with the intention of arranging a large-scale fund to support frontline health workers.

The statement from #PlayersTogether outlined that they have partnered with NHS Charities Together to generate funds for supporting the work and well-being of NHS staff, volunteers and patients during the pandemic. The statement also reiterated the government’s advice to stay at home, with more than 7,000 deaths in the UK resulting from coronavirus (as per Sky News).

These Liverpool fans on Twitter lauded Henderson for his part in the #BetterTogether initiative:
