A number of Liverpool fans have sent their best wishes to Pepe Reina after the former Reds goalkeeper’s recent brush with coronavirus.

In an interview with Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport [via Sky Sports], the Aston Villa ‘keeper described his fear after losing oxygen for 25 minutes during a period of self-isolation prompted by showing symptoms of COVID-19. However, he posted a video of himself on Twitter (via @PReina25) engaging in some light training saying that he is “ready to keep fighting” and calling on people to “be tough” amid the coronavirus pandemic.

With English football currently on hold for at least another four weeks, Reina has urged the authorities not to rush back into playing matches given the global severity of the virus, insisting that “everyone’s wellbeing goes above anything else” and declaring that he is happy to wait until such time that fans can be safely let into stadia to attend games.
