Plenty of Liverpool fans have been reacting to comments made by Reds midfielder Pedro Chirivella about his team-mates at Anfield and his future at the club.

The 22-year-old, who has only made 11 first team appearances for the Reds and whose contract ends on 30 June, addressed those subjects in an interview with Marca, from which excerpts were shared by Liverpool’s official website and Twitter channel @LFC.

The Spanish midfielder, whose only senior appearances this season have come in cup competitions, acknowledged the quality of those players ahead of him in the Anfield pecking order, saying: “It is the best squad in Europe. The midfield is very level, world class players and it is very difficult to enter. Fabinho, [Jordan] Henderson, [Georginio] Wijnaldum … Spectacular footballers from whom we are proud to learn every day. I try to fix on everyone to improve.”

He also lauded Jurgen Klopp as a “very close coach to the players” who “gets along very well with everyone” and admitted to some uncertainty over his contract situation at Liverpool due to the possibility of the season extending into the summer amid the coronavirus pandemic. Chirivella told Marca: “Because of the coronavirus, we do not know if we will end on June 30 or later. I like to carry it day by day. I don’t like to think much about the future and what comes will come.”

These Liverpool fans appreciated the sentiments from the 22-year-old, who gave a much-lauded display against Everton in the FA Cup this year on one of his rare appearances. One Kopite called for him to be given a contract extension at Anfield, while another saluted the “great attitude” from the midfielder:
