Liverpool are interested in a deal to bring Rennes forward Martin Terrier to Anfield, as Sadio Mane’s future at the Reds looks increasingly unsure.

What’s the word?

That’s according to David Hughes writing for the Mirror, who states that Liverpool are tracking the 25-year-old and see him as a replacement for their Senegalese sensation.

The report goes on to outline the details surrounding Mane’s potential exit from the club, noting Bayern Munich as his expected destination.

Spurs have been linked with a move for the £22.5m-rated ace in the past, but this report seems to suggest that Liverpool will be the first to make a move as they prepare to lose one of their superstars.

The next Sadio Mane

Despite a turbulent start to his career, it seems that Terrier has blossomed into a lethal attacker since his move to Rennes. Perhaps this refresh and continued competition for places at Liverpool could see him elevate his game to news levels.

However, 21 league goals this season is indicative of a winger in fine form and with no need for added incentives. Combined with his 7.30 average SofaScore rating, Terrier has terrorised Ligue 1 defences this season, leading to the BT Sport commentary team describing him as “astonishing” during one game this campaign.

One thing that likens him to Mane is his ability in the air, who both possess a deceptively impressive ability, considering their respective heights.

Standing at just over 6-foot, Terrier ranks in the 93rd percentile for aerials won per 90. Sadio Mane has finished 15 of his 111 Premier League goals with his head, but often shows a proficiency for scoring difficult chances with his head. His winner against Aston Villa in early May is indicative of this.

Terrier’s new manager Genesio recently claimed he “has all the qualities of a high-level player”, and his numbers this season only act to prove this statement.

In fact, FBref likens the £21k-per-week marksman to a number of wingers, with Sadio Mane unsurprisingly being his second closest comparison.

With pace, power, and an eye for goal, it seems that in Terrier, Liverpool could end up with a like-for-like replacement that is five years the 30-year-old’s junior. Jurgen Klopp should waste no time, if Spurs also share an interest in him.

In others news, Liverpool were close to signing a different French superstar. Find out who here.
