Liverpool will not rule out signing 21-year-old midfielder, Enzo Fernandez, despite his recent summer switch to Benfica.

What’s the word?

That is according to a report from O Jogo, relayed by Sports Witness, who claim that the Argentinian midfielder’s quick start to life in the Liga Portugal has intrigued the Reds, who were already interested in signing him from former club, River Plate.

But despite this interest, the report states that this transfer will not take place within the coming months, and looks to be more of a summer window option, which would mean Fernandez had been in Lisbon for one year by this time scale.

The same outlet states that Fernandez is focused on continuing his adaptation to European football at Benfica, with the starlet said to be in no rush for an exit.

It is said that the player “knows” there are other clubs following his progress, with Liverpool thought to be one of those sides who “don’t rule out” moving for him in the “short or medium term.”

Klopp will love him

With the Argentine only recently making the switch to Benfica, it is likely that Liverpool will have to wait for his signature.

But, there is one thing for sure. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will love what the defensive-minded midfield star has to offer, and will surely appreciate his efforts in adapting to European football.

As Klopp will be aware, the Liga Portugal is a great place to adapt and improve, with two of Liverpool’s big signings in Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez arriving from both Porto and Benfica, respectively.

Fernandez, who is at the heart of “the rechanging” in the Argentina national team, as pointed out by Rodrigo De Paul, via Roy Nemer on Twitter, could well be the next big export out of the Portuguese top-flight, with Klopp surely looking to future proof the pivot-position in the Liverpool first-team.
