Paris Saint-Germain’s generational talent Kylian Mbappe was advised to join Liverpool over Real Madrid, had he left the Ligue 1 Champions in the summer transfer window just gone.
What’s the word?
That is according to a report from French outlet, El Pais, who state that Mbappe’s uncle – Pierre Mbappe – who is the forward’s “most respected football advisor” saw Liverpool as the “most appropriate destination” for him, if he had fled the French capital.
The report goes onto state that Liverpool have been in contact with the 23-year-old’s family for years, with a swap deal for Mohamed Salah mooted as a potential option to cheapen the deal, with this idea of swapping assets said to be “reciprocated” in Paris.
A big boost
The report from El Pais is positive from a Liverpool perspective to say the least.
It goes without saying that there will always be interest in an asset who conjured up a whopping 47 goal contributions in Ligue 1 last term in the form of 28 goals and 19 assists across 35 games for PSG.
That was of course under Mauricio Pochettino, who lacked consistency at the Parc des Princes – despite winning Ligue 1 – so Reds fans will be licking their lips at the prospective Mbappe x Klopp collaboration.
His 47 contributions last season ranked him as the Parisian club’s best attacking asset, ahead of Neymar and Lionel Messi, neither of whom could come close to his total for both goals and assists.
The signing of £413k-per-week Mbappe would make for some statement from FSG, particularly if they managed to keep hold of Salah in the process, though his heavy pay packet could cause concern.
