According to El Nacional, Liverpool have had a bid accepted by Florentino Perez to sign Real Madrid star Federico Valverde this summer.

Jurgen Klopp and his squad have found themselves in a space of transition this summer, following the departure of a number of long-term players upon the expiry of their contracts.

Roberto Firmino, James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have all moved on from Merseyside and are taking the next steps in their careers, paving the way for Liverpool to employ the next generation of talent.

The Reds have already completed their first signing of the summer with former Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Alexis Mac Allister set to take his place in the heart of the team next season.

At this stage, the club are yet to add any more new additions but have been linked daily to potential targets who could offer ways of improvement on the pitch after the side struggled to maintain their high standards last season.

It has now been reported by the Spanish news outlet El Nacional, that Liverpool have had a bid accepted for Valverde.

The article claims that Liverpool have tabled a €90m (£77m) bid for the Los Blancos midfielder, however, this has not been formally accepted by the club and instead only approved by Perez at this stage.

It is revealed that Carlo Ancelotti is keen to hold onto his player at the Santiago Bernabeu, but with Jude Bellingham’s arrival and contract renewals for many midfielders, it is looking like game time could be limited for Valverde and he may seek to exit.

Our thoughts on Liverpool’s interest in Federico Valverde…

There is no doubt that Valverde would be an incredible signing for Liverpool this summer, considering their need to not only inject some youthful talent but also boost the winning mentality in the team.

The Merseyside giants fell short of qualifying for the Champions League last season after finishing fifth in the Premier League table for the first time in over half a decade, and crashed out of the European competition prematurely in the round of 16.

As a result, the signing of Valverde could offer Klopp a player who offers both technical brilliance and a winning mindset that could get Liverpool back where they belong in competing at the highest level for trophies.

As per FBref, the 24-year-old Uruguayan star ranks in the top 16% of his positional peers across the top five European leagues over the last 12 months for non-penalty goals, assists, pass completion, progressive carries and progressive passes received, demonstrating a prolific attacking style of play and ability to get into dangerous positions.

Of course, Valverde will be no stranger to high praise for his performance and BT Sport pundit Joe Cole was quick to compliment the midfielder’s impact during a Champions League tie last season:

“He’s standing right at the top of the tree with Bellingham in the young players, and he’s on the verge of becoming the best.”

“He’s box-to-box, he scores goals, he’s a technician he was the unsung hero in the final, I thought he was outstanding against Liverpool.”

“His stats this year are unbelievable, his goals, assists, goal involvements, incredible player and we talk a lot about Bellingham in this country, but this kid is every bit as good as Bellingham.”

With that being, it is without doubt that Valverde would be welcomed with open arms at Anfield next season and if the club can strike up a deal it would be an incredible piece of business for the future of the team.
