Liverpool remain “interested” in signing Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane, but Manchester City are also believed to be keen on securing his services.

The German has enjoyed an excellent career for both club and country, standing out as arguably one of Europe’s best wide players at his best.

Sane was once a key man for City during the earlier part of Pep Guardiola’s reign at the Etihad, winning two Premier League titles, but he departed for Bayern in the summer of 2020.

The 27-year-old has continued to shine for the Bundesliga giants, tasting plenty of trophy-winning success, but he has been linked with a move to Liverpool recently.

Now, a new update has emerged regarding Sane’s future at Bayern, with journalist Christian Falk taking to X to claim the Reds and City are both keen on snapping him up:

“Our story: Manchester City is like Liverpool interested in a transfer of Leroy Sane in Summer 2024.”

Our thoughts on Liverpool signing Leroy Sane in 2024…

When assessing the idea of Liverpool signing Sane next summer, there are clear positives that stand out, because of his ability as a footballer.

The Germany international possesses Mohamed Salah’s ability to cut inside onto his left foot from the right-hand side, but equally, he can be a real force on the opposite flank, too.

Sane has 91 goal involvements (47 goals and 44 assists) in 151 appearances for Bayern, showing what a consistent provider of end product he can be, and he has even been called “one of the best wingers in the world” by teammate Jamal Musiala.

The former City man is now 27 years of age, however, so wouldn’t necessarily be coming in as someone who will be at his peak for too much longer, and he has also been injury-plagued at times in the past.

For that reason, Liverpool could be wise to look at signing a younger wide option during next summer’s transfer window, especially if Salah moves on at the end of the current campaign.

Sane is out of contract at Bayern in 2025, and if he doesn’t extend his stay there next summer and the Reds sign him instead, there are plenty of positives to him heading to Anfield.
