Liverpool have had their fair share of injuries piling up over the last few weeks, and now Hungarian ace Dominik Szoboszlai has delivered an update on his injury status.

The Reds have been in imperious form over the 2023/24 season so far and Jurgen Klopp will no doubt be delighted with how quickly the fresh-faced and revamped Liverpool squad have come together to produce positive results and unbelievable consistency since August.

Liverpool are currently top of the Premier League table with just one defeat chalked up over 20 league fixtures so far, knocked Arsenal out of the FA Cup on Sunday, have qualified for the knockout stages of the Europa League, and will continue their journey in the EFL Cup on Wednesday evening when they host Fulham at Anfield.

Having said that, Klopp has had to deal with a number of injury issues over the last few months which is to be expected when considering the amount of fixtures the side have been involved in especially during the festive season.

The German coach has been without Thiago Alcantara and Stefan Bajcetic for the entirety of the campaign so far, while Joel Matip suffered a devastating ACL injury in December, leaving him unavailable for selection throughout the remainder of the season.

At present, other than those already mentioned, Andrew Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas are both out of action with injuries; club captain Virgil van Dijk is suffering from illness; summer signing Dominik Szoboszlai is recovering from a thigh injury; and Mohamed Salah and Wataru Endo are off on international duty for the entire month.

This has left the squad sufficiently depleted for the fixtures ahead into early February, however, there has been a positive and promising message from Szoboszlai about his recovery and imminent return.

The star midfielder was back in his homeland to collect the Hungarian Male Sports Person of the Year award for 2023 last night, and delivered an injury update to M4 Sport in the process:

“I’m getting better. The first game of the year didn’t go as planned [for me], but it won’t take long and I’ll be back.”

When will Dominik Szoboszlai return for Liverpool?

Whilst it is unconfirmed as to the exact date that Szoboszlai will return to action for the Reds, his update in Hungary will delight supporters as he has been a vital asset to the team since his arrival from RB Leipzig last summer.

The Hungarian ace has been a breath of fresh air in the centre of the pitch at Anfield with his ferocious attacking mindset, which has made him a nightmare to defend against, and his explosive energy combined with an unrivalled work rate, which has been a true delight to watch for Liverpool fans.

Indeed, Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones are, as it stands, all expected to be available to start in the EFL Cup semi-final clash, so there will be no pressure for Klopp to hurry back the 23-year-old and it seems incredibly unlikely to see Szoboszlai starting against Fulham tomorrow night.

However, with the winter break giving the Merseyside giants a few days to recover before Premier League action recommences on the 21st of January, it would be no surprise to see him back in full training very soon and in the starting eleven once again before the end of the month.
