According to SPORT BILD, Liverpool are keeping an eye on Donyell Malen’s situation at Borussia Dortmund, as he could be an excellent heir for Mohamed Salah.

Liverpool are about to enter a completely new era without Jurgen Klopp, and it will take some getting used to at Anfield without the coach who has brought so much success and passion to the manager role.

It is not just the German coach who will depart this summer, but his entire backroom staff will also go their separate ways, meaning there is a massive task at hand for FSG to not only replace Klopp with a worthy successor but build a team of people behind the scenes that can inspire further success.

The shock exit of Klopp could also spark more change in the first-team squad, as the new manager could have a different perspective on the right path to follow, and tactically, it could be a completely new concept for the players.

As a result, there may be opportunities to move on and replace particular players, as well as ways to boost transfer funds Mohamed Salah could be one of the superstars at Anfield who could be sacrificed with the long-term future in mind.

The Egyptian winger has been a revelation for Liverpool and has broken numerous records for the club and in the Premier League, however, Saudi Pro League clubs are keen to make the winger the star of their league, and reports speculated that in January an offer of £150m was tabled to tempt him away from Merseyside.

Salah will have only one year left on his contract in the summer, and it is unlikely that the club will want to lose one of their biggest assets on a free transfer, so if they have the chance to collect a huge fee for their star player, there is a strong possibility that Liverpool will need to replace him.

Now SPORT BILD are reporting that Borussia Dortmund are ready to sell Donyell Malen to fund investments in young players for the future, and Liverpool could be set to capitalise on the Bundesliga side’s decision by snapping up his services this summer.

Should Liverpool sign Donyell Malen?

If the club does decide to cash in on Salah this summer, they will need to replace him with a player who is extremely convincing and prepared to have high expectations thrust upon them.

The Anfield faithful will already be feeling dejected with the exit of Klopp, so the sale of Salah could create a volatile situation on the red side of Merseyside if his replacement can’t step up.

As per FBref, Malen ranks in the top 2% of his positional peers across the top five European leagues for non-penalty goals and shots on goals, as well as ranking in the top 18% for successful take-ons and touches per 90 minutes played, proving that he is incredibly prolific in front of goal.

Over 21 Bundesliga appearances this season, the 25-year-old has scored ten goals and created eight big chances so far, as well as averaging one key pass, 2.7 shots on goal, 2.5 ball recoveries, and 1.7 successful dribbles per game.

Not only that, Malen has the confidence and experience of playing across the front three like many of the forwards at Liverpool, so would be a great addition to cover depth in the attacking roles, as well as predominantly featuring in Salah’s position on the right flank.

With that being said, it will be interesting to see if Liverpool finally make an offer for Malen in the summer, but as mentioned above it would likely depend on Salah’s future on Merseyside.
