According to Daily Mail journalist Lewis Steele, Liverpool midfielder Wataru Endo is expected to return to action in the Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest this weekend.
Liverpool have been dealing with a huge injury crisis over the last month, but they haven’t let it dampen their dreams of picking up multiple trophies this season with a Carabao Cup already secured.
Jurgen Klopp is coming to the end of his tenure on the red side of Merseyside and would likely love to win the Premier League title, FA Cup, and the Europa League before he leaves this summer, but the mounting injuries are becoming a cause for concern.
Darwin Nunez, Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson Becker and Diogo Jota are just a few of the players who have been sidelined with various issues and did not participate in the Carabao Cup win at the weekend.
Now Ryan Gravenberch is also out with ligament damage after being stretchered off the pitch in the first half against Chelsea, and Wataru Endo suffered a knock after the final too.
As a result, all of the aforementioned players are looking extremely unlikely to participate in the clash with Southampton this evening but it is not all bad news as Endo could be set to return against Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon.
The Daily Mail’s Merseyside football reporter, Lewis Steele, has revealed that the defensive midfielder is not suffering a serious injury and is expected by the club to return for the Premier League clash.
Which players could return for Nottingham Forest?
There is no doubt that Klopp will be hoping to get through this FA Cup fifth round without a hiccup and will feel he has enough quality as well as the home advantage to get the job done.
However, the meeting with Forest at the City Ground will be no easy challenge, with Manchester City and Arsenal breathing down Liverpool’s necks in the league table it will be important to not slip up at such a vulnerable time in the title race.
Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo are only doubted for the meeting with Southampton this evening and have not been confirmed as unavailable, so there is a good chance if they’re not involved it is more of a case that Klopp is resting them for the Premier League fixture instead.
With that being said, the return of Salah, Nunez, Szoboszlai and Endo against Forest would be a massive boost for the Reds in their title challenge and would certainly put them in a more favourable position to take points on Trentside this weekend.
