According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are interested in snapping up the services of Leeds United star Crysencio Summerville.

Liverpool are gearing up for a hugely transformative summer, with a new manager set to take the reigns at Anfield and the potential of fresh faces joining the squad too.

Thiago Alcantara and Joel Matip will be out of contract at the end of the season, and there have already been many rumours linking other players away from the club alongside Jurgen Klopp’s departure.

One of those players is Colombian winger Luis Diaz, who has been continuously linked with a move to Barcelona, a dream move that the player and his family have spoken out about in the past.

At this time, there is no sign that there is any concrete interest from the La Liga giants, who have crippling financial issues, however, a potential replacement has been identified, according to Italian journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Speaking on his Here We Go podcast this week, Romano revealed details about Liverpool’s interest in Leeds United star Crysencio Summerville:

“Centre-back – they will sign a player in that position.

“Then, looking at some opportunities for offensive players, and talented players.

“What I am hearing is true that Summerville at Leeds United is one of the players they are monitoring.

“They sent their scouts multiple times – even before [Michael] Edwards and [Richard] Hughes arrived at the club – to follow the progress of Summerville.

“So now, let’s see what Liverpool will decide to do. But the player is really appreciated.”

Should Liverpool sign Crysencio Summerville?

The fact that Michael Edwards is part of the mastermind behind Liverpool’s most successful side in over three decades should give the Anfield faithful some faith in the fact that he will recruit excellently upon his return to the club this summer.

While it won’t directly be his job to front the recruitment drive alongside the new manager, Edwards will surely have a plan of action in place to delegate to new sporting director Richard Hughes when he joins the fold next month too.

Indeed, Summerville is currently playing at Championship level which could put doubt in the minds of supporters, but the 22-year-old does have Premier League experience and has proven that his talent is far superior of many in the second division.

Over 42 Championship appearances, the talented Dutchman has scored 19 goals, registered nine assists and created 17 big chances so far, as well as averaging 1.2 shots on target, 3.4 ball recoveries, 1.4 tackles won and 5.7 duels won per game, as per SofaScore.

Not only that former Liverpool hitman Michael Owen is one of many who have waxed lyrical about Summerville in the past, with the striker turned pundit claiming the young winger was “really exceptional” for his goal scored against Tottenham Hotspur last season.

With that being said, it would be interesting to see whether Liverpool will make a concrete move for the Championship star this summer and their chances of securing his signature for a small fee will depend on whether Leeds successfully get promoted back to the Premier League or not.
