According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker will stay at the club this summer, despite rumours of a move to Saudi Arabia.
Liverpool have a huge summer ahead of them after the departure of Jurgen Klopp and new manager Arne Slot will be working hard to meet the high expectations when he arrives at the club on June 1st.
The former Feyenoord boss will work with Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes to develop the next chapter at Anfield, combining both the squad that Klopp left behind him with fresh faces who can influence success in the future.
Last summer the Reds said goodbye to some of their most influential players of the Klopp era with former captain Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Roberto Firmino and Fabinho all waving goodbye to Merseyside, and this summer Thiago Alcantara and Joel Matip are another two Liverpool success stories that move onto new things.
While it is clear the end of an era is upon the six-time Champions League winners, it will be important to keep together as many of the remaining senior players in the squad as their presence and experience will not only help to stabilise the dressing room despite so much change but also keeps that winning mentality and expectation alive.
Players like Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson and Alisson Becker set a standard due to their hugely successful careers at the club and keeping them involved as much as possible will give a Slot a great advantage in his first season at the club.
Indeed, most of the aforementioned players have been linked with moves away from Merseyside already this summer, and Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson has been on the radar of the Saudi Pro League that already claimed Henderson, Fabinho and Firmino less than 12 months ago.
However, Italian journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has now claimed on his YouTube channel that Alisson is “expected to stay” at Liverpool ahead of next season.
Romano revealed:
“In the last few days we heard rumours on Alisson and proposals from Saudi.”
“I was checking on that guys, and what I’m told is that there was some approaches around March, April for Alisson, trying to understand the situation around the Brazilian goalkeeper, but the answer I got, as of now, and never say never in the market, but as of now, and of May, is that there was some approach, but Alisson is expected to stay at Liverpool.”
Our thoughts on Alisson staying at Liverpool….
There is no doubt that Alisson has been a massive influence on the success Liverpool have had since his arrival in 2016 and continues to be a huge presence in the starting eleven.
Replacing the Brazil international would be incredibly difficult considering he is arguably one of the best goalkeepers in the entire world at this moment time, so he really is an invaluable asset to the club and probably the most unlikely player to see get sold for reinvestment purposes in the coming years.
Van Dijk, Alexander-Arnold and Salah are all coming into the last 12 months of their contract, so the club will have bigger decisions and more pressing concerns to address when it comes to either keeping or selling on some of the most important talents on the red side of Merseyside.
With that being said, it seems highly unlikely that Alisson will leave Liverpool this summer which will be a huge relief to the Anfield faithful as he will be incredibly important to Slot next season.
