According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are one of the clubs interested in young Lille centre-back Leny Yoro.

Liverpool are heading into an extremely transformative summer with a complete upheaval in personnel behind the scenes at the club and a brand new manager joining to succeed Jurgen Klopp.

Former Feyenoord boss Arne Slot will take on the huge challenge of following up on his much-loved German predecessor and will be tasked with ensuring that Liverpool can remain competitive and challenging for trophies every season.

Indeed, there will be high expectations for the incoming Dutchman, however, it will be important for the club to back the manager and provide him with the investment he needs to implement his strategy and philosophy at Anfield over the coming months and years ahead in his role.

As a result, it will come as no surprise to Liverpool supporters that the club is being linked with a number of players already this summer as the media try to pinpoint the direction of the recruitment drive fronted by new sporting director Richard Hughes.

Italian journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has this morning claimed in his Daily Briefing that Liverpool are one of the clubs interested in snapping up the services of Lille centre-back Leny Yoro.

Romano revealed:

“As I’ve mentioned previously, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are absolutely in the race for Yoro,”

“It’s also the case that Liverpool have been scouting him, but at the moment the situation is really based on what kind of price Lille will ask for – all clubs are basically waiting for that.

“Liverpool could strengthen at centre-back this summer, as I’ve reported before, but let’s see if this scouting and monitoring of Yoro turns into anything more concrete. For now, it’s just normal scouting of a top talent, and my understanding is that PSG and Real Madrid are very much in the race for his signature.”

Who is Leny Yoro?

The young and exciting defender has been stealing the spotlight this season as he continued to impress this season for Lille both domestically and on the European stage via the Europa Conference League.

The 18-year-old – who has been dubbed a “world-class talent” with an “incredibly complete CB profile” by football talent scout Jacek Kulig – is rightfully attracting the attention of some of the biggest football clubs in the world with his fantastic performances.

Over 32 Ligue 1 appearances this season, Yoro has had a 92% pass completion rate, successfully completed 80% of his dribbles and won 63% of his ground and aerial duels combined, as per SofaScore.

Although an ideal candidate to become part of the defensive set up due to his age and potential, there have been claims in the French media that the young star will command a transfer fee of around £76m which is likely to be an amount that Liverpool won’t agree to when investing in the next generation of talent at the club.

With that being said, it will be interesting to see just how far the Reds are willing to go to secure the signature of Yoro over their competitors this summer, but would be an unlikely acquisition at that price as the club prefer to operate more frugally.
